IFSAC TESTING
FIREFIGHTER CHALLENGE (TEAM COMPETITION) - STATE RULES
Equipment:
One (1) 24 ft. ladder. One (1) section 1-½ inch hose rolled and tied to a section of rope. One (1) standard window exhaust fan. One (1) section 1-½ inch hose with nozzle. One (1) 175 lb. Rescue Randy type dummy. One (1) small hand flashlight serving as a baton.
Procedure:
1. Five (5) firefighters start at designated positions. Firefighter 1 has the baton and
is positioned at the base of the ladder, which is secured against the platform with
the base 6 ft. from the plumb line.
2. At signal, Firefighter 1 climbs the ladder and hands the baton to firefighter 2,
who is positioned on the mark at the top of the platform. Firefighter 1 passes the
baton to firefighter 2 after he has touched the top rung.
3. Firefighter 2 proceeds to the rope pull. The rope is looped over the back rail with
the hose tied to the end on the ground below. Firefighter 2 pulls the hose to the
platform using the rope and places it safely on the platform. After the hose is on the
platform he hands the baton back to firefighter 1 who must have one hand on
the top rung while receiving the baton.
4. Firefighter 1 descends the ladder with the baton and carries the baton to
firefighter 3 who will be waiting at a point 25 ft. from the base of the ladder.
5. Firefighter 1 passes the baton to firefighter 3. After receiving the baton
firefighter 3 will pick up the fan and carry it through a series of 6 cones placed
over a 50 ft. area, alternating the cones to his right and left (zig zag pattern),
firefighter 3 then places the fan in the marked area and carries the baton to
firefighter 4.
6. Firefighter 4 will be at a point 25 ft. from the completion of the fan carry. Upon
receiving the baton, firefighter 4 will pick up a section of charged 1-½ inch hose
and advance it 50 ft. Once he crosses the 50 ft. line he will open the nozzle and
knock over the target. The target (softball on secured cone) will be 25 ft. from
the line. Once the target has been knocked down firefighter 4 will carry the baton
to firefighter 5.
7. Firefighter 5 will be at a point 25 ft. from the 1-½ inch line. Upon receiving the
baton, firefighter 5 will receive the baton and lift and drag the dummy 50 ft.
across the finish line. The dummy must be dragged. His head must remain off
the ground during the drag and his feet must remain on the ground during the
drag. When firefighter 5 crosses the 50 ft. line the time stops and the event is
over.
Penalties: 10 seconds for each violation
